LIVING

IN BACKAPLAN of the future
Backaplan of the future has the power to attract people. Its appeal is founded on a rich cultural scene, social consideration and accessibility. We will create indoor and outdoor meeting places, as well as activities for different ages that promote cohesion and socialising in the city. An attractive, inclusive city neighbourhood, open to all perspectives and preferences.

Shopping

There is already a wide range of shops at Backaplan, along with various other activities that add value to the location. A new shopping centre is currently being built with a variety of retail and food-shopping opportunities, as well as services and street sections with new shops, to join the existing assortment.

Food culture from around the world

A wide range of restaurants is essential in a vibrant urban area, including everything from coffee and pastries, to after-work food and drinks, and à la carte dinners. Natural meeting-places in characterful settings, with food and drink from all around the world.

Culture and events

The development of Backaplan lays the foundation for a wide variety of activities and expressions. A new cultural centre will house a library, alongside all kinds of other activities and public events in the visual arts, film, theatre, music, literature, design and architecture. There is already a virtual platform, Culture Center Backaplan, which brings together creative and cultural initiatives with links to the area.

Parks and outdoor activities

Backaplan of the future will offer plenty of green areas and parks of different sizes to encourage play, exercise, recreation and social activities. Plans include adventure playgrounds, outdoor gyms, neighbourhood sports grounds, hammock parks, calm oases, skateboard ramps and rambling paths.

Schools and services

As the population increases, so too does the need for more schools, nurseries and other services. In addition to new schools for children of all ages, new retirement homes are also being built, along with a new medical centre and a new large sports centre.

Infrastructure

It is easy to get to and from Backaplan by bus, tram or car. The central hub at Hjalmar Brantingsplatsen is planned to be one of five major public transport hubs, and the way into the many retail and social/cultural venues that Backaplan has to offer. The Marieholm Tunnel and the new Hisingsbron Bridge unite the two sides of the river and knit the city together. In the future, a swing footbridge across the river is also being planned, as well as a commuter train station at Brunnsbo.
