IN BACKAPLAN OF THE FUTURE
For more than half a century, Backaplan has been a centre of trade and commerce with a blend of small companies and large chains. Today, it is one of the most expansive areas in Gothenburg. The area is now being developed to create an attractive urban environment with a diverse range of shops, restaurants, social/cultural venues, offices and hotels. Almost 20,000 people will work in Backaplan.

Social/cultural venues and shops

Current retail will be doubled to total about 140,000 square metres. There will be a wide range of shops, mixed with social and cultural activities. In particular, the numerous units intended as ground-floor venues will encourage an active street life. In Backaplan of the future we will encounter both familiar favourites, local businesses and large international chains.

Cafés and restaurants

Meeting places serve an important purpose in an active, vibrant urban environment, and cafés and restaurants have an important part to play here. The main thoroughfares in the area offer sunny spots for outdoor seating, easily accessible options for lunch, and exciting, varied restaurant concepts to suit all tastes.

Offices of the future

Offices of the future make high demands in terms of flexibility. We envisage, for example, a need for flexible contracts that suit businesses of all sizes and which enable them to grow. There will be space for everything from co-working spaces, hybrid offices and premium offices to accommodation in the form of corporate and long-stay apartments.

Deltahuset – Hisingen’s highest office building

With 19 floors, Deltahuset will be the highest office building in Backaplan. 19,000 vibrant square meters of office space and a view of the river. This will be a workplace to be proud of.

How long can I keep my shop?
The new neighbourhood will grow in stages over a number of years. How the agreement will work for each business owner will be determined by them and the property owner. We refer you to your landlord. As things stand, existing retail will continue operating as normal until the first stage is complete (around 2025). Backaplan of the future will welcome more entrepreneurs, business owners and companies that want to be part of this new, modern neighbourhood and contribute to its appeal. The area will offer everything from international chains to local champions who are unique to Backaplan.
What are you doing to make life easier for existing businesses in Backaplan?
Backaplan is an important commercial centre that will remain open for business throughout the construction period. We are working with the City of Gothenburg to minimise any disruption and to ensure easy access to the area. Logistics planning is everything in these kinds of projects, which means we are devoting enormous resources to developing the area as smoothly as possible.
